A FEW FAMILY ROOM CHANGES

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

A few weeks ago I started the daunting task of a pre-Fall clean up. I dove in head first and basically created what I can only describe as a tornado in our home. We cleaned. We cleaned some more. We went through every closet, every draw, every basket. We threw away, donated, and gave away to friends. I thought we would never finish but alas, there’s a light at the end of every tunnel. We also decide to switch up the living room and trade rooms with the kids while all of this was going on. What can I say? Either go big or go home.

The biggest changes we made in the living room were adding in extra seating, switching the main wall back to white, and a new rug. We don’t have a lot of space to work with and have to be so careful about what we decide to bring into our home. The rule is only what we truly LOVE.

I wanted a beautiful but functional chair for when guests come over or when all get tired of snuggling together on the couch ;). Furniture Maison has such an awesome collection of beautiful mid-century and Scandinavian furniture and I fell in love with their Aloha Chair. The natural rattan goes perfectly with our other rattan accent pieces and just feels light and airy – it doesn’t eat up our tiny space. Lucas loves sitting in his “man chair” and it’s also become the new hang out spot for all his Ninja Turtles. It’s safe to say the whole family loves it. You can check out Furniture Maison’s best sellers and new additions for more shopping inspo (I’ve been eyeing this fab mirror!).

My love for kilim rugs runs deep. I had been on the hunt for the perfect one and kept coming up empty. I found Kaya Kilims via Instagram (which is a must follow for incredible rug/design inspiration) and as soon as I went to her shop I knew I had found the one. Yep, my rug is the one. Nez, who runs the shop, is a gem and such a pleasure to speak with. Her personal Instagram is also incredible. I can’t recommend her shop enough if you are searching for a new rug!

Jessica Kollar is an illustrator and painter based in NYC and a few weeks ago she came over to basically make all my bedroom wall dreams come true (post to come soon). While she was here I mentioned that I was thinking about painting our living room wall white and she came up with the most incredible idea. She came back a week later and created a linen like texture on the wall using a paste (Kreos by Oikos) and a special brush. After it dried she painted it in decorators white in an eggshell finish. It looks like wallpaper and it adds such a beautiful touch to the room! You can follow her on Instagram here.

I’m so incredibly happy with our small changes – I also moved the kids desk, switched up our baskets, edited the pillows, added and moved plants – they make a huge impact on the room and I suddenly feel so ready for Fall. A clean house, that cool breeze, and my happy little fam…nothing better! Another big thank you to Furniture Maison and Kaya Kilims on helping me update our little space.

WE NEST | TINY CORNERS

A few snapshots of my favorite corners in our new apartment. Three months later is still considered new, right? Because the decorating/curating process has taken so much longer than I could have ever imagined! I have been trying to be extremely thoughtful and take my time with these oh so important decisions ;). The things I love most in our home are the pieces that have been handed down to us from family, especially the photographs which I can’t get enough of. I have also been going washi tape crazy. If anyone has a better solution to hang polaroids please let a mama know. Although I have to admit I’m quite liking my crazy black and white tape situation. It makes for an easy move when I want to switch things up a bit. Anywho, will be sharing more soon!

WE NEST | A TEEPEE FOR LUCAS

If you can’t tell from that last photo, Lucas is pretty stoked about his new teepee from LJ Teepees. We have been hoarding this bad boy for a while now and I really don’t know who was more excited about finally being able to play in it – me or Lucas. We can go with Lucas here but it must be noted that my excitement level was pretty high on the charts. This thing is awesome. We both fit in it (hurrah!) so it’s perfect for reading time, sharing secrets, and just plain hanging out.

THE THING ABOUT MOVING

The thing about moving is..It requires a crap load of patience. It seems as though I’m lacking in that department..One mess gets cleaned up and another one appears. The cycle continues and it quite literally seems never ending. You need to make an appointment to set up your new cable and internet. The technicians come, set it all up, and they probably will do a shoddy job and one day later, boom, no internet. Thus resulting in radio silence on your blog. It’s amazing the panic that will ensue when deciding to hang a picture on this wall or this wall. Apparently I’m extremely indecisive. But in my defense drilling holes is serious business people.  So please, send help. Lots of it. And wine.

WE NEST | LADY NOEL RELAUNCHES

“Creativity is essentially a lonely art. An even lonelier struggle. To some a blessing. To others a curse. It is in reality the ability to reach inside yourself and drag forth from your very soul an idea.” – Lou

For months I have been witness to this beautiful artist transform her space with new pieces. I have been lucky enough to be just a small part of the process – listening to her as the wheels in that creative brain are turning, watching paintings blossom from a blank canvas to some of the most beautiful art I have ever seen. It has been an honor. Today I am proud to announce that Lauren Noel has relaunched her shop! There are one of a kind pieces as well as gorgeous prints that are sure to brighten up your space with love and beauty. Today (I change my mind constantly – they are too good!) my favorite is this lady. Check the site often as new pieces will be added throughout the next few weeks!

WE NEST | KIDS ROOM INSPO

1 | 2 | 3 | 4

Our move is quickly approaching. After what feels like an eternity it’s happening! I can’t stop dreaming about Lucas’s new room. From his art work to his bedding, it all feels so exciting. It’s the first room in the house I want to complete. I want him to walk in and know that it’s all his if that makes sense. A space to call his own where he has the freedom to create, make little boy messes, and where he feels safe. His very own toddler haven! I am loving the idea of a bright, airy space with pops of beautiful color. The rooms above are my current inspo and I’m hoping to recreate a similar look only with a Lucas spin, of course.
